History of Hunters CreekHunters Creek is a community of 611 single family homes centrally located in North Central San Antonio. It is situated between Wurzbach Road and Huebner Road, with the main entrance off Lockhill-Selma. It was originally built beginning in about 1980 and most construction was completed by 1990. Children from Hunters Creek attend Oak Meadow Elementary, Jackson Middle and Winston Churchill High School in the North East Independent School District Neighborhood amenities include walking/nature trails and a Swim and Recreation Club. Membership is available in the Swim and Recreation Club for a reasonable yearly fee and provides access to lighted tennis courts and a large competition size swimming pool with a nearby wading pool. A large attractive clubhouse, with a working fireplace and a full-sized kitchen, is the site of many neighborhood activities and is available to rent for private parties. Also located in this complex is a safe, newly-refurbished playground for neighborhood children. The Hunters Creek Neighborhood Association is a voluntary organization with an elected board of directors. The Board (consisting of: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Member-At-Large, Swim and Recreation Club President and Chairs for the following committees: Newsletter, Codes & Covenants, Membership, Landscape, Neighborhood Watch, and Welcoming, meets monthly in open meetings at the Clubhouse. Board members, elected at an annual neighborhood meeting in April, donate their time and expertise for the improvement of the Hunters Creek Neighborhood. Annual voluntary membership fees are used to provide funding for security patrols, landscape maintenance, utilities for the islands, notice signs for neighborhood entrances, new resident packets, resident directories, donations to local school programs, and other activities related to the safety and attractiveness of Hunters Creek. A number of special interest groups (including a bridge group, a book club, a tennis club and a dinner group) are active within the neighborhood.
